TENCEL™ fibers are made of responsibly sourced wood pulp and produced in an entirely “closed-loop” process. The process transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers, is highly resource efficient and has a low environmental impact. The solvent-spinning process recycles processed water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99% without releasing contaminants into the environment.

The fibers are transformed into TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers which can be combined with other fibers and used in the production of textiles by clothing brands like Mate the Label, Tasi Travels, Tentree, Patagonia, Tamga Designs, Whimsy + Row.

  • The fibers originate from the renewable raw material, wood and used cotton waste. The REFIBRA technology up-cycles cotton scraps from garment production and wood pulp.

  • The cellulose fiber is made by dissolving wood pulp and using a drying process called spinning.

Before drying the wood, chips are mixed with a solvent to produce a wet mixture. The mixture is pushed through small holes to form threads, chemically treated, then the lengths of the fibers are spun into yarn and woven into cloth.

Used in eco-conscious clothing brands, from underwear to active wear, denim, luxe footwear and even home goods.

  • Certified compostable and biodegradable.

Lenzing, the company that produces TENCEL™ fibers strives to safeguard resources for future generations through renewable energy and recovery of process chemicals.

Requires less energy, water and dye than cotton and is less chemically intensive than Rayon.

  • Gentle on skin, breathable color, retains color, antimicrobial, light, soft, high tenacity. It is pure white when processed so requires no bleaching. Depending on the length of the fiber the texture and thickness may vary - can feel cotton-like or silky, flowy or form-fitting.
