Leaf Leather
An alternative to leather sourced from animals. A Brazilian company Holyfancy designed a collection of bags made of leaf leather, recycled tires and PET. Design studio Furf worked with Nova Kaeru to design furniture made with a leather-like material made from leaves. Nova Kaeru’s material called beLEAF. Th furniture is industrially produced with recycled steel, welded and finished by hand.
-
The leaf leather is made from the elephant ear plant, a giant leaf native to brazil. It is made by the world’s only organic tannery – Nova Kaeru. The leaves from the Areca Betel Nut Pal can be biologically softened in a solution leaving the leaves flexible and soft, similar to the feel of cow leather.
-
The leaves are treated to become leather-like without the need to mix its fibers with other materials. The collection Holybyleaf ranges from bum bags to backpacks. Each bag is partly made from leaf material . The rest is made of recycled tires and recycled PET bottles.
-
Vegan, plastic free, innovation in sustainability. Lower CO2 emissions in its manufacturing process. Not made with other fibers, polymers or chemicals.
-
The natural leaf structure remains visible in the leather. Waterproof. Similar properties to animal leather.
